October 22, 1993

Today they are deciding where our sites will be. I asked for, in order of importance, a) ti be by Lisa and Jeff; 2) to be at a site that wanted a volunteer; 3) to be near a border; 4) to be near transportation. We shall see how it turns out, next week.

We taught at the Chieng Yun school today, I thought it was great, I would love to be more comfortable with the kids.

I was feeling a little “warm” when we got back and took my temperature. Ahhhhh 103.5 degrees. I nearly went into shock, went to find Julie (David was in the shower), and she took it again, yep, 103.5. So we found David, ice & water, so I took a shower, etc. etc. It started to go down, but at 12:30 it started up again. So, Saturday morning, I went to the hospital, trip #2 (#1 was for a cold in my eye). The Doctor said I had something in my throat, but my lungs were clear, she asked if I had been to the Forest lately!! They took blood and tested me for Malaria (I don’t got it), they gave me a bunch of drugs and that afternoon a bunch of us went to Nanka on a shopping trip. That night we had a party at the hotel, just for fun, and it did turn out to be fun.

It was fun being in Udon Thani for the week, great to see all the TEFL’s again. I really am glad Lisa and I are friends, someday I hope to be just like her. Beautiful! I hope our sites are close together too, so we can go by tiow often.

I really like some of the “older” PCV’s and the trainers. Ashley was very nice. Rachel was gone on Saturday, and Sunday we traveled to Saraburi and it was such a quiet pleasant ride, at 3pm we met with Rachel and Sawarote, they were tired and didn’t say very much, but I realized, I don’t think very much of her. The TEFL trainers have Concetta, whom I love; Mari, who paints very rosy pictures, and Floy, I hope I am like her when I get older, and Brian and David, are also very nice.

In nine days we swear-in, so this week we have language exams and site announcements. Serious anxiety!

This evening we arrived at the Seed Center in Saraburi, we are staying at a park where there are little waterfalls not too far away. Muak Lek Nom Toke, but also thousands of people and trash.
